Youth Outreach Programme Buenos Aires
Argentina is in the midst of a deep economic depression which has led to increased inequality between the poor and rich classes. The knock-on affect to the youth of the nation makes gloomy reading. Many lose the desire to go to school, attend higher education or to keep their jobs. Your enthusiasm and mentoring skills are vital -giving much needed help to the despondent youth of Buenos Aires.
The Volunteer RoleYou will be based at a center dedicated to changing the negative outlook of the youngsters by offering job training, education, career advice and economic support. The center also cares for the children of parents struggling to hold down a full time job and look after their children.
Your role will be to enhance the lives of the underprivileged children of Buenos Aires and play a part in breaking the cycle of poverty.
- Organising youth educational and/or recreational activities
- Playing games and sports with the children
- Giving informal English lessons
- Collecting donation of food, clothing and other materials
- Develop/teach workshops e.g. drama, dance, songs, art, languages
- Prepare and serve the children meals and snacks
- Working on administrative tasks
- Organise field trips

Accommodation and meals
There are two options for accommodation, depending on whether you choose to combine the volunteering project with the Spanish language school or simply volunteer.
For the language school and volunteering package
You will be staying with an Argentinean host family. The family will provide two meals a day, and a private room with a shared bathroom. They will speak Spanish most of the time, to help you learn the language. There will be at least one member of the family that speaks English if need be.
For the volunteering project alone
You will be staying at a hostel with breakfast included.
