Thai Boxing and Culture
This program provides participants with the opportunity to learn or brush up on their Thai Boxing (Muay Thai), to speak basic Thai and experience some of the cultural highlights of this beautiful country.
Thai Culture and Boxing ProgrammeThai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand and is widespread throughout South East Asia. It teaches participants to fight their opponent using eight points of contact to the body – with the feet, knees, hands and elbows.
It is considered to be one of the best and most physical martial art forms.
The Culture and Boxing programme is broken into 8 weeks:
Bangkok Stop over Upon arrival at Bangkok airport you will be met by a guide who will take you to the Hotel. You will be transferred by air-conditioned bus for your 2-night stop over which includes your breakfasts.
Week One This week is your introduction to Thailand. During this week you will learn about Thailand, its people, culture, attitudes and customs, with some basic language lessons too. You will have a number of trips during this week.
Week two - Temple Stay & Outdoor Activities Learn all about the Buddhist faith, with a stay in a Buddhist temple. Learn to meditate from the local Monks, a rare experience that most travellers do not have.
Week three to seven - Thai Boxing Training For the next 5 weeks you will train in all elements of Muay Thai. Our instructor will take you through all the traditional training techniques and develop your overall skills as a Thai boxer. Whether you are an absolute beginner or have been learning this martial art for many years, our instructor will be able to develop a training programme to suit you.
Week Eight -Beach time and Final evaluation Travel to Samet Island for Beach time and relaxation.
4 or 5 Week Programme If you wish to do a shorter programme, we have 4, 5 and 6 week options. In both programmes, there will be the orientation week (as above), followed by the relevant amount of Thai Boxing training.
Project LocationIt is approximately 15 minutes from your accommodation in the eco-houses to The Muay Thai training camp. Singburi is 10km from the camp (and approximately 140 km from Bangkok) and provides participants with a real opportunity to experience a town unaffected by tourism in Thailand.
Accommodation You will be housed in one of our three Eco Houses which sleep between 11 and 28 people in dorm style accommodation (bed numbers per room range from three to 12). The majority of houses have western style toilets and each bathroom has a shower with cool running water which is refreshing after the heat of the day. Each house has a common area where participants eat and relax.
