Teach English in Brazil
In Real Gap’s Teaching English in Brazil program, you will work with local children in a Community Education Centre in the Pavão - Pavãozinho community in the South Zone of Rio. This establishment cares for 353 children from ages 3 months to 18 years. The purpose is to give full-time education and preventative healthcare to children and their families who are in social risk situations. The centre consists of seven buildings, including a day-care centre, education centre, school library, elementary school, high school, theatre, numerous classrooms for fine arts and culture and a sports centre, with a swimming pool currently under construction.
The community center’s aim is to mentor students and support their families in order to build future community peace and well-being.
The Volunteer RoleThe Brazil volunteer project is to be found in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. Famous for its mile-long stretches of white sandy beaches, lively nightlife and innumerable tourist attractions, this city has something for everyone...not forgetting the legendary Copacabana beach, which is situated in the same district as the teaching centre.
As a volunteer, you will be work directly with the children, assisting all ages from infants to teenagers. Volunteers will help out with the English education program at the centre, including tutoring students, teaching classes, and helping to organize scholastic activities. You may even have the responsibility of teaching your own individual class if the need arises!
Project Location
You will be situated at the Community Education Centre in the Pavão-Pavãozinho favelas in the Southern Zone of Rio on Brazil’s Atlantic coast.
