Instructor Training Programme

Working towards the NZSIA Stage 1 Qualification, you will not only receive professional training in order to improve your teaching methods and your own technique, but also have the chance to work in a ski-school environment, picking up the teaching procedures from working ski instructors.

CSI and NZSIA Level 1 Qualifications:
There are two main qualifications you will be aiming to complete during this snowboarding/ski instructor program - the NZSIA CSI and NZSIA Stage 1. These are the New Zealand equivalent of Ski/Snowboard Instructor qualifications and are recognized all over the globe.

CSI:The Certificate in Ski Instruction (CSI) is an entry-level qualification that allows you to teach novices to advanced beginners. The course takes approximately four days to complete and requires you to demonstrate the ability to teach basic principles, analyze individual ability i.e. weaknesses and strengths, class handling, safety and to be able to deal with both adult beginners and children.

NZSIA Stage 1 and SBINZ Stage 1:The New Zealand Snow-sports Instructor Alliance and Snow Boarding Instruction New Zealand Stage 1 course is a requirement for anyone looking to instruct snowboarding/skiing. It allows you to instruct up to Advanced Intermediate level and is generally a minimum level qualification for anyone wishing to work in a ski school. The course itself takes five-eight days to totally complete and requires you to demonstrate the ability to:

Ski Course:
  • Understand the basic teaching model and learning processes
  • Teach basic turns to advanced parallel turns (with pole plant)
  • Individual analysis
  • Demonstrate knowledge and give information on technical processes
