Dominican Republic Disabled Adults and Children
This volunteer program is highly suited to volunteers who want to work with people of various ages and who are physically disabled.
The need for volunteer help is high in the Dominican Republic and though volunteering is quite a new concept here, all volunteers are gratefully welcomed.
Volunteer RoleOn this Dominican Republic volunteer placement, the children and adults who require volunteer help are separated into different homes. The adults with disabilities live in a warn community residence and have a number of activities during the day, including paintings, cooking and carpentry. The children don’t live in a group home environment but are supported in a school. Here, dynamic teaching methods in a loving environment help them grow and develop.
A volunteer's typical day includes:
- Aiding in the adult workshops in the morning
- Helping in the children's classroom
- After school activities (crafts and homework help) in the afternoons
