Brazil Youth Outreach
You will be working in a day center in the Pavão-Pavãozinho favelas of Rio de Janeiro where you will help to positively influence impoverished families who are trapped in a negative cycle of unemployment, low education and poverty.
Your role will include teaching English classes, helping to organize leisure activities and tutoring students. The program currently provides help for more than 400 children and medical aid to over 1500 families.
Volunteer RoleYour activities as a volunteer may include:
- Organizing and teaching English classes
- Tutoring children in English and Maths
- Taking care of children in the nursery
- Helping out with meal time
- Assisting with a variety of administrative tasks at the centre
- Helping coach sports and other recreational activities
Project LocationThe favela is located in the stunning and vibrant Rio de Janeiro on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. Situated on a steep hill, the favela overlooks the beachfronts of Ipanema and Copacabana, perfectly illustrating the division of poverty and affluence in this beautiful city.
